Russia Reports Record Ukrainian Drone Attack Across Multiple Regions
The reported total surpassed the previous record claimed by Moscow on Sept. 20, when Russian authorities said Ukraine had launched 1,110 drones.
"During the past night, air defense duty forces intercepted and destroyed 1,214 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles," the ministry said in a statement.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said the capital region was targeted by 613 drones during the overnight assault.
"Most of them were neutralized by Defense Ministry air defenses on distant approaches," he said on the Russian social media platform Max.
Sobyanin added that 231 drones had been destroyed while approaching Moscow.
Russia’s civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, temporarily restricted arrivals and departures at Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports near Moscow, citing the need “to ensure flight safety.” The restrictions were subsequently lifted.
A source within air traffic control services said two aircraft traveling from Istanbul to Moscow reversed course while airborne and returned to Istanbul because of the restrictions affecting Vnukovo airport, according to reports.
Temporary flight restrictions were also introduced at airports in 18 other Russian cities.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the Russian claims. The reported scale of the attack could not be independently confirmed amid the ongoing conflict.
