Russian Authorities Detain Ufa Mayor in Corruption Probe

(MENAFN) The mayor of Ufa, a major city in Russia’s Bashkortostan region, has been detained on suspicion of bribery and abuse of office, according to statements from Russian investigative authorities.

The Russian Investigative Committee said that Ratmir Mavliyev is being investigated over allegations that include exceeding official authority and receiving a large-scale bribe.

In its statement, the committee said Mavliyev is suspected under provisions of Russian criminal law related to abuse of power and bribery on an especially large scale. It added that additional officials are also under investigation, including the city administration’s deputy head, a senior official from the land and property relations department, and the director of a sanatorium.

Authorities reported that searches, interrogations, and document seizures have already been carried out as part of the ongoing case. A decision is also being considered regarding preventive measures for the individuals involved.

The investigation remains ongoing, with further legal steps expected as authorities continue to examine the allegations.
