Russian war reporter survives Ukrainian suicide drone
In the video, Filatov can be seen swerving and ducking after being warned of an incoming UAV. The drone whizzes past him and detonates a short distance ahead.
Filatov explained in a Telegram post that he had been inspecting a vulnerable section of a Russian supply route, where electronic jamming coverage had temporarily lapsed due to a jammer being relocated. This created a “radio shadow,” making the road visible to Ukrainian drone operators. He had ridden ahead of a vehicle equipped with a jammer, leaving himself exposed.
The incident highlights the ongoing electronic warfare in the conflict. As jamming systems improve, radio-controlled drones are becoming less effective, pushing both sides to adopt fiber-optic-controlled UAVs. Though slower, these drones are resistant to jamming.
The attack took place near the Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) front, where Russian forces are actively working to encircle a major Ukrainian logistical hub.
