Russia arrests nine due to calls to kill soldiers, families

(MENAFN) Russian security officials have detained nine individuals accused of promoting terrorism and making online threats to kill military personnel, law enforcement officers, and their families. The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Thursday that the suspects, all Russian citizens, had posted such content on social media and messaging platforms.

The arrests were carried out across various regions, including Krasnodar, Astrakhan, Vladimir, Murmansk, Omsk, Kherson, Yaroslavl, and the Jewish Autonomous Region. According to video footage released by the FSB, some of the detainees admitted to supporting Ukraine and sharing messages that incited violence against Russians.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated under laws prohibiting terrorist propaganda and public calls for extremist actions. If convicted, the suspects could face up to seven years in prison.

The FSB warned that Ukrainian intelligence agencies are actively attempting to recruit Russian citizens online for sabotage and terror operations, often targeting individuals with limited legal awareness. The agency stressed the importance of online caution, warning that provocative behavior can lead to criminal prosecution.

The FSB has regularly reported similar arrests, typically involving people recruited remotely via the internet and instructed to carry out specific tasks inside Russia. In a recent case, a Russian citizen was apprehended in Nizhny Novgorod while allegedly attempting to retrieve an improvised explosive device, reportedly under the direction of Ukrainian intelligence.
